At age three, Opal Coleman Wright became a permanent part of my life until her passing. She had a profound effect on me in so many ways. She had a quiet, gentle spirit and minded her own business. She stood up for what was right and good. She was not afraid to discipline with a kind but firm hand when appropriate. She had a strong work ethic and took pride in turning a house into a home. Anything less than perfection was unacceptable to her.
Many years ago I had the privilege of attending one of her church functions. She sang a solo at the top of her lungs about Jesus being her friend. I remember it like it was yesterday.
In her later years, only she and the Lord know how much she suffered. In spite of her pain and difficulty breathing, she never once complained. She was always encouraging others to find something to praise Jesus for. She often said that any day above ground was a day worth living.
You'll always be in my heart, Opal. As much as you will be missed, it comforts me to know that you are now in Heaven....no more sickness, pain, and tears. Thank you for being the elegant, dignified, and beautiful lady that you were. I look forward to seeing you again in Heaven. Love, Marcia
