Obituary of Omie Louise Blake
Omie Louise “Prump” Blake, 82, of Texarkana, Texas went home to her eternal rest on April 13, 2018.
Ms. Blake was born February 4, 1936, in Texarkana, Texas and was the only child of Albert and Elee Blake. She had a happy childhood and graduated from Dunbar High School. Central to her life was faith in God and love for her family and friends. As a lifelong member of the New Town Missionary Baptist Church in Texarkana, Texas, she devoted her life to the ministry of the gospel, singing in the choir, working as church clerk, financial secretary and supporting all areas anyway that she could. Singing was a passion for Omie and she was often asked to minister in song at many church and civic functions. She also worked as a beautician for over fifty years. Omie loved traveling and enjoyed visiting her son and daughter-in-law at locations in Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Luxemburg, Switzerland and across the US. For over twenty years Omie poured her heart and soul into overseeing the annual Building Fund Program at her church. Each year through this program, she brought light and joy to many in the community. Last year it was officially named the “Omie Louise Blake Annual Building Fund Program.”
Omie is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elee Blake.
By far her greatest joy was her son, Perry Phillip Blake (Audrey), San Antonio, Texas, who survives her. Omie was affectionately known as “Granny B” to Narada Wakefield, DeSean Wakefield, Layla, Adriauna and DJ Butler and she had a host of relatives and close friends who will miss her smile, hugs and wonderful advice.
