Obituary of Letha Blackwell
Letha Mae Allen, aged 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, June, 12, 2020 at Heritage Plaza Nursing Center. She was born on July 23, 1924, in Texarkana, Texas to Chad Allen and Eliza Jane Moore. She was a 1942 graduate of Dunbar High School In Texarkana. In 1964, she married Burnice Blackwell. No children were born to this union.
Letha was a licensed beautician for 45 years. She was a beauty operator at the Lively Set Beauty Shop and she also worked from her home shop. Letha loved fixing hair!
She joined the African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age. She united with St Matthew’s A.M.E. Church in the early 30’s. She was a member of Hamilton Memorial for over 70 years. SHe was church secretary for 50 years. She also served as Hospitality Committee Chairperson for the church. SHe was well known for her peach cobblers, apple dumplings and banana puddings. Letha had a strong love for her church and church family. She was never afraid to let you know where she stood on anything.
She loved cooking, sewing and taking care of her family and friends. She has always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family and friends. Her love and dedication will never be forgotten.
She is survived by daughter in law-Flavia Washington
