Alvin was so sweet to me, when I visited Brenda. Opened his home and invited me in, to visit. There was love in his home, filled with many memories. He seemed reserved, quiet, and a right nice gentleman. It was an honor t o.k meet and get to know Alvin. He is loved and will live on in my heart and memories. My condolances t o.k the family.

Alvin, my grandpa, didn’t share a drop of blood with any of his six children, but he shared his whole heart with them and their children, down to his great grandchildren. He helped us all grow into men and women; he helped to fight our battles, was there for us when we lost and rejoiced with us when we won. He was always there, the strong, silent presence of a steady man who loved you no matter what, just because he chose to. Through their actions, my grandparents both taught me that love is a choice. So many of us have had a time when we have felt desperate and alone, like we had nowhere else to go but to Grandpa & Grandma’s house, and they opened the door and took us in. In this world where people discard relationships like they are last weeks dinner leftovers, my grandpa chose to love my grandma for over 45 years to the day she died, he chose to love her children like his own, and he continued that legacy with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. I am so thankful and feel so privileged to have known him and been his granddaughter, and for the memories my family and I have with him. Some of my favorites….feeding the ducks in San Diego, wearing his white IBM dress shirt as a nightgown when I was little, spending nearly every summer at their house in San Diego while growing up, introducing him to his first great granddaughters, going zip lining (twice!) in 2020….over alligators!
